Feb 14thThe Ant Nebula
The ‘ant nebula’ (Menzel 3, or Mz3) resembles the head and thorax of a common garden ant when viewed from ground based telescopes. But in this image taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, the ‘ant’s body’ resembles a pair of fiery lobes protruding from a dying, Sun-like star. Very cool.
